The incumbent of this position serves as a Business Technician at the Turtle Mountain Middle School. The position requires substantial knowledge of school business and/or technician while providing administrative support. Some of the duties will include:

• Knowledge of school business and administrative support terminology, requirements, procedures, operations, functions, and regulatory policy and procedural requirements
• Work supporting accounting, budget finance (includes encoding and remote data entry payments), human resources management, management analysis, and procurement
• P.L. 93-638 contracts and P.L. 100-297 grant Part A and/or Part B administration
• Property and supply management
• Space management, public information, safety, food service and security programs and functions
• Setting up travel for all staff with Gov-trip
• Assistant and technical work involves the application of procedures, practices and instructions within the framework of established guidelines
• Responsibility for distributing and controlling mail
• Maintaining leave records and setting up files and records
• Arranging meetings and conferences
• Preparing purchase requisitions/purchase orders for supplies, equipment and services.
• Completing various forms including travel vouchers, code sheets, requisitions, etc. from general instructions.
• Provide for the proper care and use of assigned supplies and equipment.
• Composing and typing routine correspondence. Gathering and researching files and preparing statistical or other reports, and performing recurring office work.
• At times answering phone, referring telephone calls and visitors.
• At times participating in educational activities, such as professional workshops, that improve personal skills for providing better services to the school.

Be a team player who works in concert with other staff and administrators for the success of the school. Promotes and provides open communication with all staff and administrators for the success of the school and performs other duties and responsibilities related to a business technician as assigned by supervisor.

Level 02: Associate Degree or 60 college semester hours in related field and one year of related experience; OR High School or GED and three years related experience.

Level 03: Associate Degree or 60 college semester hours in related field and two years related experience; OR High School or GED diploma and five years related experience.

Related experience for Level 02 Business Technician includes lower level work such as that equivalent to a level 01 or GS-03 level of difficulty in a technical area. Representative technical areas could include bookkeeper, budget clerk, financial clerk, purchasing clerk, human resources clerk, or other similar clerical and administrative support functions. Related experience for Level 03 Business Technician should be in two or more different administrative areas (e.g., human resources assistant, accounting technician or purchasing agent) at a level equivalent to CE/CY-02 or GS-05 for a minimum of one year in each area.


A valid State Driver’s license is a prerequisite, as the position requires operation of a motor vehicle in performance of work. A valid State Driver’s license must be maintained as a condition of employment; failure to do so may result in removal from the position.

The incumbent is subject to background investigation.


Good distant vision and ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters is required, glasses permitted. Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, is required. In most instances an amputation of arm, hand, leg, or foot will not disqualify an applicant for appointment, although it maybe necessary that this condition be compensated by satisfactory prosthesis. In addition, applicants must have mental and emotional stability.

The position requires normal physical activity with the work, field travel, and to attendance at meetings and conferences from the duty station.

The investigation may extend beyond the time covered by this form, when necessary to resolve issues. 

The applicant's current employer may be contacted as part of the investigation, although the applicant may have previously indicated on applications or other forms that the applicant did not want the current employer to be contacted. If the applicant has a security freeze on their consumer or credit report file, then the agency may not be able to complete the investigation, which can adversely affect the applicant's eligibility for a public trust position or the ability to obtain Federal or contract employment. To avoid such delays, the applicant must request that the consumer reporting agencies lift the freeze in these instances.
In addition to the questions on the SF-85P, inquiry also is made about the applicant's adherence to security requirements, the applicant honesty and integrity, falsification, misrepresentation, and any other behavior, activities, or associations that tend to demonstrate a person is not reliable, trustworthy, or loyal.

After a suitability /fitness determination is made, the applicant may also be subject to continuous vetting which may include periodic reinvestigations to ensure the employee is continuing suitability for employment.
