Twenty-one Bureau of Indian Education-funded high schools achieved graduation rates of 90% or higher in 2025 — an unprecedented milestone that reflects the Bureau’s continued commitment to student achievement, college and career readiness, and workforce development for the future. These outcomes are particularly significant, as many of these schools outperform the national graduation rate, demonstrating that BIE students are achieving at levels that meet—and in some cases exceed—national benchmarks.

BIE’s overall graduation rate has reached 79%, the highest in the Bureau’s history. BIE’s Strategic Direction sets a graduation rate goal of 91% by May 2030. With 2025’s record graduation rates, BIE schools are 87% of the way toward that goal.

“These schools are a testament to what is possible when students, families, educators, and tribal communities work together,” said BIE Director Tony Dearman. “Our students are showing the nation what Native excellence looks like. Their success reflects the unwavering dedication across our school communities to keep students at the center of everything we do, to ensure they graduate, and to thrive afterward.”

These results build on the momentum highlighted in the Department of the Interior’s recent announcement of historic increases in BIE graduation rates. School Year 2025 marks another record-setting step toward long-term success, demonstrating the impact of targeted investments in academic support, data-driven school improvement, and programs that build career pathways aligned with the Administration’s workforce readiness goals.
