The Chief Academic Office Home

The Chief Academic Office supports the Bureau of Indian Education in implementing its vision, mission, priorities, and strategic direction. It oversees the BIE's Standards, Assessment, and Accountability System, as outlined in the BIE's Agency Plan, ensuring that schools meet academic expectations.

The CAO works closely with Associate Deputy Directors and their teams in Education Resource Centers to develop and implement academic programs. This collaboration strengthens school improvement efforts, ensuring students are supported in their academic growth while honoring the culture and language of tribal communities.

The CAO also includes the Native American Student Information System team, which works across BIE divisions to collect and certify student data annually, supporting informed decision-making and accountability.
