SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO – The Branch of Safety Management would like to recognize Santa Fe Indian School, particularly SFIS Facilities Director Orlando Yazzie, whom we have identified as a Safety Champion for his swift and effective response to safety deficiencies. His outstanding commitment to maintaining a safe and secure school environment is evident in his proactive approach.
The team’s prompt identification and correction of safety issues demonstrate exceptional professionalism, readiness, and dedication to the well-being of everyone on campus. Mr. Yazzie has also leveraged new technology and upgraded the work order system to streamline requests, monitor progress, and ensure regulatory compliance. This innovation has enhanced efficiency and accountability across the facilities team.
Orlando Yazzie is a member of the Navajo and San Felipe tribes and brings nearly two decades of experience in facilities operations and leadership. He began his career in the commercial trades in 2006 after attending the University of New Mexico. Yazzie brought a strong background in developing efficient, sustainable, and high-performing operations when he joined SFIS in July 2024. Since then, he has led key initiatives to strengthen the facilities program, including implementing work order management, preventive maintenance processes, and asset management systems, while updating policies and procedures that have elevated operational standards and improved overall performance.
Recognizing that safety is a collaborative effort, Superintendent Christie Abeyta has provided Mr. Yazzie with the support and latitude needed to ensure the job is done safely. Safety & Security Coordinator and Collateral Duty Safety Officer Stanley Moya works diligently to maintain campus safety and security. Emergency Response Coordinator Jenna Burgess ensures that emergency management policies and training are firmly in place. Additional facilities management team members include Paul Chama, Randy Jones, Jose Trujillo, Leo Lovato, Gary Honowa, Anthony Rosetta, and Aaron Pecos, all of whom contribute to the school’s safe environment.
Through their actions, the Facilities Director and CDSO embody the values of vigilance, teamwork, and care. The team’s proactive approach not only safeguards school property and prevents incidents but also strengthens parents' confidence, enhances employee morale, and fosters a positive learning environment.
