Executive Order 14000 on Safely Reopening Schools

To support Executive Order 14000 on safely reopening schools, the U.S. Department of Education (ED), in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), published guidance, the ED COVID-19 Handbook Volume 1: Strategies for Safely Reopening Elementary and Secondary Schools (Handbook), to support the national response to COVID-19. Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) operated schools should align their individual school reopening plans to the Handbook to provide BIE students a high-quality instructional program with consistent implementation of risk mitigation strategies. BIE-funded Tribally controlled schools may continue to use this information as general guidance.

BIE is also planning formal Tribal consultation to receive feedback regarding school reopening in School Year 2021-2022 as well as receiving input regarding BIE residential facilities and postsecondary institutions. Specific dates are forthcoming.
