Human Resources Position Classification

Welcome to the Bureau of Indian Education's Federal Position Classification. This page provides position classification, and job grading information that is used to determine the pay plan, series, title, grade, and qualification requirements for most work in the Bureau of Indian Education.

Bureau of Indian Education Job Category Standards

For Education System positions (CY/CE Pay Plans), the Bureau of Indian Education use Job Category Standards (JCS) to identify Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities requirements for different positions and levels described there in. This would also include education, license, and certification requirements.

For information about individual Job Category Standards, please visit the JCS page.

Bureau of Indian Education Position Descriptions

A position description or "PD" is a statement of the major duties, responsibilities, and supervisory relationships of a position. In its simplest form, a PD indicates the work to be performed by the position. The purpose of a PD is to document the major duties and responsibilities of a position, not to spell out in detail every possible activity during the work day.

Fair Labor Standards Act

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. FLSA laws and regulations are maintained by the Department of Labor.
